Places and Spaces

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

‘The Tanics’ as Truly likes to call it, will be the place that stands out in her mind as where she first learned to ride a big girls bike. Freewheeling, head back and legs outstretched while mummy or daddy puff and push behind.
Situated in the heart of the West End, within the gardens there is a quant tearoom in the former Curators house near to the Kibble Palace. You can sit inside, but there is also an outdoor refreshment area to the front of the house to enjoy during warmer weather. There is a play park which is our regular pit stop, and a children’s garden, where children, parents and grandparents can get involved in planting and growing. Much to Truly's amazement it is currently full of scarecrows.

There are various events on throughout the year such as exhibitions, book and craft fairs, theatre shows, tours and talks, such as the night time talk, ‘Stars over the Botanics.’

The walkways of the River Kelvin provide an ideal habitat for wildlife, Scrumptious was particularly fascinated with the very brave squirrels. Within the grounds the trees furnish an impressive background for plant collections.
It is great for kiddies and parents alike, for a walk, play in the park, visit to the children’s garden and a cuppa, or even for learning those very important life skills such as bicycle riding.
